Fashion Week of Rochester and The Center for Youth

FWphotos11.jpgFashion Week of Rochester launched in 2010 to engage the community in a three-day event that would spotlight local designers, boutiques, businesses and artists while shining a light on youth homelessness. Now in its sixth year, Fashion Week expands to five runway shows over the course of six days (Oct. 13-18, 2015) and continues to bring awareness and financial support to The Center for Youth’s homeless programs, so no child or youth in our community is faced with an uncertain, unstable or unsafe place to live.

“We decided from the very beginning that Fashion Week would combine talent, art, design, fashion and flair to celebrate our amazing creative community while pledging to address the challenges our homeless youth face,” said Meghan Mundy, Chief Fashion Organizer of Fashion Week of Rochester. “We have never veered from that goal. We believe that is the higher mission of Fashion Week.”

Fashion Week 2015 will include five runway shows, a boutique crawl and a fashion exchange where people can "upcycle" their gently used clothing and accessories. Each runway show will feature different themes, styles, vibes -
even four-legged models!

“We try to re-energize the city with exciting, surprising and creative events each year while refocusing the community’s attention on our youth,” said Elaine Spaull, Executive Director of The Center for Youth.

In 2014, Fashion Week generated more than $250,000 for The Center for Youth. This significant support helped The Center launch its New Beginning House, an independent living resident for young men who are working to finish school or vocational programs and start careers. We were able to keep our Crisis Nursery accessible 24/7 to provide care to babies and children during family emergencies related to medical illness, homelessness and domestic violence. And we supported young mothers and their babies at our Chrysalis House with shelter, life-skills training and educational and career guidance.

We thank all our sponsors, boutiques, designers, advertisers, in-kind donors and ticket holders for your continued support, and look forward to partnering with you again.
